

STELLA KARAGIORGOU
DOUBLE BASSIST
Stella Karagiorgou began her musical journey at the Music School of Rhodes, where she discovered her passion for the double bass after two years of studies. In 2014, she was accepted into the Department of Music Science and Art (DMSA) at the University of Macedonia (UoM), specializing in double bass under the guidance of Evgenios Politis. She graduated with distinction (“A”) and later earned a Master’s Degree in Performance from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, studying with Michael Klinghoffer. Her studies were fully funded through scholarships from the American-Israel Cultural Foundation (AICF) and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). She is currently pursuing a second Master’s Degree (MSc) in “Music Sciences and Arts” at DMSA of UoM.
Her orchestral experience includes performances in opera and choral productions as a double bassist. She has been awarded first prizes in the 13th, 14th, and 15th Panhellenic Student Artistic Competitions and received a Commendation in the 2018 Performance Competition of the University of Macedonia in the Chamber Music category. She has collaborated with several distinguished orchestras, including the JugendSinfonieOrchester der Rheinischen Musikschule (JSO) in Cologne, the Mendi Rodan Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Double Bass Quartet, the Megaro Youth Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki’s Concert Hall (MOYSA), and the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO).
Throughout her career, she has attended masterclasses with world-renowned musicians such as E. Politis, D. Chandrakis, Michael Wolf, Dr. Mia Hynes, Wies De Boeve, Michael Klinghoffer, Ödön Rácz, Lu Yuan, and Michael Semsis. She has also collaborated with esteemed soloists, including Vassilis Varvaressos (piano), Achilleas Liarmakopoulos (trombone), Savina Giannatou (vocals), Anneleen Lenaerts (harp), Anna Fedorova (piano), Danuta Augustyn (violin), Marcin Markowicz (violin), and Daniel Rowland (violin).
Since 2021, she has been a member of the Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra (Elson- GYSO), performing at prestigious venues such as the Young Euro Classic Festival at Konzerthaus in Berlin and Carnegie Hall in New York. She is also a permanent member of the JoveNata Ensemble and has collaborated with renowned Greek artists including Dimitris Zervoudakis, Dimitris Basis, Antinoos Almpanis, and Yiannis Dionysiou.
Stella is a founding member of the Mediterranean Double Bass Forum, which has hosted internationally acclaimed double bassists such as Theotime Voisin, Volkan Orhon, Jason Heath, Jean‐Baptiste Salles, Alexander Osipenko, Steinar Bormer, Luis Cojal, and Samar Hafez. Additionally, she co-organized the Double Bass Exhibition in May 2023 alongside luthier Ioan Bucur. Furthermore, she has served as a Brand Ambassador for Mad’s Marketing in the UNHCR Campaign and was a music-kinetic instructor at Frutopia Kindergarten.
Since 2022, she has been teaching double bass at the Municipal Conservatory of Pylaia‐Hortiatis, and as of February 2025, she will assume the role of appointed lecturer at the Department of Music Science and Art (DMSA) of the University of Macedonia (UoM), specializing in “Orchestral Music Performance – Double Bass”. She is also an active member of the female ensemble “Evita and Dry Breads”,based in Thessaloniki.
Since January 2025, she has been a permanent member of BullStrings, the remote recording string ensemble of BullStreet Production Studio in Edessa.
