DOUBLE BASSIST

Lygia Mylia is a distinguished double bassist and educator with an extensive record of orchestral performance and pedagogical engagement. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Philology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 2011 to 2016 and subsequently obtained a Double Bass Diploma from the Contemporary Conservatory of Thessaloniki, where her studies spanned from 2003 to 2017. Furthering her musical expertise, she completed a Harmony Degree at the same institution between 2018 and 2020, and she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Contemporary Trends in Linguistics for Educators at the Hellenic Open University.

Lygia has showcased her artistry in a multitude of prestigious venues both domestically and internationally. Since 2014, she has been an integral member of MOYSA (Megaro Youth Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki), performing alongside eminent ensembles including the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, Athens State Orchestra, ERT Symphony Orchestra, Thessaloniki Municipal Symphony Orchestra, European Youth Symphony Orchestra, Cameristi della Scala di Milano, Concertgebouw Orchestra, and El Sistema Turkey. In 2018, she joined the Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra (ELSON), based at the Athens Concert Hall, where she has graced esteemed stages such as the Piraeus Municipal Theatre and the National Opera, as well as toured extensively across Greece, including performances in Corfu, Delphi, and Thessaloniki, and abroad in cities like Berlin and New York City.

Her orchestral experience is further enriched by her participation in specialized ensembles. Since 2014, Lygia has been performing with “Fantasie”, a chamber orchestra, and from 2015 to 2017, she contributed her talents to “Ricercar”, a Baroque orchestra. Moreover, she collaborated with the Baroque ensemble Art Various during the period from 2017 to 2018.

In addition to her performance career, Lygia is a dedicated educator committed to nurturing future generations of musicians. Since 2018, she has served as an instructor at the Municipal Conservatory of Drama and, during the 2018–2019 academic year, at the Music School of Serres. Her teaching contributions further extend to her role as an instructor at the Society of Friends of Letters and Arts in Serres from 2018 to 2020, and she has been a faculty member at the Municipal Conservatories of Eordaia and Edessa since 2021.

With a comprehensive background spanning classical, chamber, and baroque music, Lygia continues to make significant contributions to both the performance and education of the double bass in Greece. Since January 2025, she has been a permanent member of BullStrings, the remote recording string ensemble of BullStreet Production Studio in Edessa.
