CELLIST

Despoina Charitopoulou is a distinguished cellist with a diploma in cello since 2019 from the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki under the supervision of Professor Dimitris Polyzoidis. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s in computational physics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Her continuous training includes participation in prestigious masterclasses, such as the Pelion Festival with Matias de Oliveira Pinto, Ulrich Voss, Vassilis Saitis, Angelos Liakakis, and Themistocles Vagenas (2016-2019). She has also attended a Baroque chamber music seminar at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, taught by Dimos Goudaroulis and Markellos Chrysikopoulos, and participated in the conservatory’s improvisation group, performing in several concerts under the supervision of the Director
Theodora Totsiou.

Despoina has an active presence in distinguished orchestras and cultural institutions. She has been a member of renowned symphonic ensembles, including the Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO) in Athens and the Megaro Youth Symphony Orchestra (MOYSA) of Thessaloniki’s Concert Hall. From 2015 to 2022, she was a permanent member of MOYSA, participating in numerous artistic projects and performances in collaboration with esteemed orchestras such as the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and the Athens State Orchestra.

She has performed at prestigious venues, including the Thessaloniki and Athens Concert Halls, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), the
Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Additionally, she has collaborated with the Thessaloniki State and City Symphony Orchestras and the Balkan Youth Symphony Orchestra, as well as with distinguished artists such as Dimitris Basis, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Nikos Portokaloglou, Thodoris Voutsikakis, Fotis Siotas, TAKIM, and Dionysis Savvopoulos, among many others.

Currently, she has been teaching cello since 2018 at various conservatories in the greater Thessaloniki area, and she is a permanent cellist at the Aristotle University Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki. Since January 2025, she has been a permanent member of BullStrings, the remote recording string ensemble of BullStreet Production Studio in Edessa.
